Below is a brief summary and highlights of some of the countries we monitor
Taiwan. After a long period of no updates Taiwan's legislator have come alive and added 297 new substances to there list of Controlled Drug. In reality this is closer to 600 discrete substances when taking into account positional isomers. Hundreds of these are new and unique amounst controlled drug laws globally - at least with regards to named substances although many fall under existing chemical space controls widely used in several countries.
UK. We issued a legislation alert in December 2021 highlighting draft legislation to reclassify 1,4-Butanediol and the final version has been published. The changes are to come into law on 13th April 2022. This Order will reclassify 1,4-Butanediol (1,4-BD), Gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and 4-Hydroxy-n-butyric acid (GHB) from Class C to Class B drugs for the purposes of control under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
VIENNA, Austria – March 2022: At its 65th regular session from 14 to 18 March 2022, the UN INCB (International Commission on Narcotic Drugs) decided to place three new psychoactive substances under international control following recommendations by the WHO. These include Brorphine – (Schedule I) - Metonitazene – (Schedule I) and added to the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971: - Eutylone – (Schedule II). Countries globally will now have to update there controlled drugs lists to ensure these are properly controlled.
Italy. The following preparations, plants and related substances have been added to Table 1; Ayahuasca Harmaline Harmine Banisteriopsis caapi Psychotria viridis
Brazil has moved from List C1 to List B1 and Escetamine (the S(+) enantiomer of ketamine) is added to List B1 and on List F2 added; 1B-LSD, 1P-LSD, 5C-MDA-19, 5F-MDA-19, ADB-FUBIATA, ALD-52, MDA-19
Japan. Six substances have been made Designated Drugs under the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Act; 5F-EDMB-PICA Etonitazepyne D2PV Δ9-THCP Hexahydrocannabinol Methoxpropamine
Sweden. The Medical Products Agency has added Remimazolam as a Swedish List IV in the regulations (LVFS 2011: 10) on lists of drugs.
