May has seen a potentially significant updates to UK Controlled Drug laws proposed while the EU has opened a consultation on Drug precursors regulations.
Below is a brief summary and highlights of some of the countries we monitor and encode in Controlled Substances Squared. The solution that allows you to easily and automatically check if your chemicals are regulated or controlled - even novel and propriatory chemicals
Due to the number and complexity of updates we can't include them all here, just a few of the highlights.

The ACMD recommends to the UK Government to add the following compounds to schedule 1 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Diphenidine Ephenidine Methoxyphenidine (also known as methoxphenidine). If agreed and enacted by parliament, these will be added into Controlled Substances Squared.
Updates to synthetic cannabinoid controls in the UK
In 2022 the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD, the body that advises the UK goverment) was commissioned to give advice on the appropriate classification and scheduling of the synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonist (SCRA) Cumyl-PeGaClone under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
This currently does not fall within the scope of the already existing widely scoped and complex 3rd generation synthetic cannabinoid generic descriptions.
The ACMD has proposed that the government amended the current 3rd generation synthetic cannabinoid generic descriptions and also create 4 more.
These are complex descriptions, which Scitegrity will now be assessing the potential impact of these proposals if implemented. If implemented there will be added to Controlled Substances Squared to allow any chemicals to be automatically assessed if it falls within these descriptions.
An example of one is below, you can read the full proposal here
Changes from the November 2019 version are shown in bold below.
Any compound (not being a compound for the time being specified in sub-paragraph (c) above) structurally related to 1-pentyl-3-(1-naphthoyl) indole (JWH-018 ), in that the four sub-structures, that is to say the indole ring, the pentyl substituent, the methanone linking group and the naphthyl ring are linked together in a similar manner, whether or not any of the sub-structures have been modified, and whether or not substituted in any of the linked substructures with a benzyl or phenyl group and whether or not such compound is further substituted to any extent with alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, halide, haloalkyl or cyano substituents and, where any of the sub-structures have been modified, the modifications of the sub-structures are limited to any of the following, that is to say-
(i) Replacement of the indole ring with indane, indene, indazole, pyrrole, pyrazole, imidazole, benzimidazole, 9H-carbazole with the linking group attached at the 3- position, pyrrolo[2,3- b]pyridine, pyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine or pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine;
(ii) Replacement of the pentyl substituent with hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, benzyl, cycloalkylmethyl, cycloalkylethyl, (bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-yl)methyl, sulfonyl, (N-methylpiperidin-2-yl)methyl, 2-(4- morpholinyl)-ethyl or (tetrahydropyran-4-yl)methyl;
(iii) Replacement of the methanone linking group with an ethanone, carboxamide, carboxylate, methylene bridge, ethanamide or methine group;
(iv) Replacement of the 1-naphthyl ring with 2-naphthyl, phenyl, benzyl, adamantyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylmethyl, cycloalkylethyl, bicyclo[2.2.1]heptanyl, 1,2,3,4- tetrahydronaphthyl, quinolinyl, isoquinolinyl, 1-amino-1-oxopropan-2-yl, 1-hydroxy-1- oxopropan-2-yl, piperidinyl, morpholinyl, pyrrolidinyl, tetrahydropyranyl or piperazinyl;
Taiwan
In a new amended 5 substances are added to Schedule 3 Controlled Drugs, 6 substances are added to Schedule 4 Controlled Drugs Materials. Psilocybin is moved to Schedule 3 and a correction to the Chinese name of MDPHP is made
Denmark
A new amendment adds Hexahydrocannabinol to List B.
Poland
The amendment to Dz.U. 2022 poz. 1665 replaces the table of tetrahydrocannabinols because of an error made in Dz.U. 2022 poz. 1665 regarding the compound delta-9(11)-THC. Moreover, 11 new substances are added to the psychotropic lists. Scitegrity had previously un covered this error and documented it within Controlled Substances Squared, inclu
EU
The European Union is consulting on Drug Precursor regulations and updates. They are looking for comments from interested parties. You could read more here on the EU website
