The DEA in the USA further expanded the control on N-phenylpiperidin-4-amine derivatives as List 1 scheduled precursors. This controls not just 1 substances, but an entire chemical class use in the manufacture of narcotics. This is now the second chemical space based control on List 1 precursors in the CSA, and suggest it’s an approach gaining increasing acceptance by the DEA for precursors.

Sweden

The Swedish Medicines Agency has also announced that it intends to introduce twelve new substances into the regulations (LVFS 2011:10) on lists of drugs as list I substances. USA
The Drug Enforcement Administration proposes placing two phenethylamine hallucinogens, as identified in this proposed rule, in schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. The DEA has also issued a temporary order to schedule six synthetic cannabinoids and their optical and geometric isomers, salts, and salts of isomers, whenever the existence of such isomers and salts is possible, in schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act. Nine fentanyl-related substances, including their isomers, esters, ethers, salts, and salts of isomers, esters, and ethers whenever the existence of such isomers, esters, ethers, and salts is possible have also been added to schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.. Japan

UN(INCB)
WHO has announced the scheduling recommendations on psychoactive substances reviewed at the 46th Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD) held from 16-20th October 2023. In total, six substances were critically reviewed by the ECDD, five of which (one synthetic opioid, two stimulants, one dissociative and one sedative/hypnotic) were recommended for scheduling, while one benzodiazepine, flubromazepam,as well as nitrous oxide, a substance with medical and industrial use, were recommended to be kept under surveillance. The Committee also recommended that carisoprodol, a substance with medical uses, be subject to a future critical review.

Brazil
Five substances have been added to the lists of Brazilian controlled substances. these are Flunitrazolam, List B1 3,4-MDP-2-P ethyl glycidate, List D1 ADB-5Br-INACA, List F2 BZO-HEPOXIZID, List F2 MDMB-INACA, List F2. UK
The UK government have released a news story saying that ‘Fifteen new synthetic opioids and 5 other drugs will be banned as Class A drugs as the government continues to act to prevent drug deaths.’
These 20 substances have been the subject of previous Scitegrity Controlled substances Squared legislation alerts and this is the final official notification that these substances will be scheduled. The legislation to do this has not yet been enacted and the timings for this to happen are not yet known.
