Scitegrity’s Ian Johns recently gave a well-received presentation on controlled substance laws and compliance at SLAS’s Compound Management in Industry and Academia conference in Berlin.
The talk touched on areas such as:-

  • A brief overview of the current global controlled substance legislative framework and the challenges in maintaining compliance.

  • How you turn legislation – words - into a chemical structure aware system that can determine whether a substance is controlled or not.

  • The technical challenges of building a system that works as well with the input of a single hand drawn structure as with the maintenance of controlled status for the whole of a pharmaceutical company’s compound collection.

  • How to present the determination results to all users in an organisation so that they understand the context and what they should do if they are dealing with a controlled substance.
